Revised 2010 Mazda CX-7 Crossover with New Turbo Diesel Hits UK Showrooms, Petrol Version Dropped

Mazda has announced that its facelifted CX-7 'Sports Crossover' will arrive in UK showrooms from November 1st with pricing set at £25,785 on-the-road. In Britain, the subtly refreshed CX-7 will be available as a single model powered by a new 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine that generates 173 horsepower and 400Nm of peak torque.

The automaker claims a 0-62mph (100km/h) sprint time of 11.3 seconds and a top speed of 124mph (199 km/h) with combined fuel economy of 37.7mpg UK (31.3mpg US or 7.5lt/100km).

For the 2010 model year, the Japanese automaker has dropped the Mazda3 MPS-sourced, 260HP 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-four gasoline unit from the CX-7's lineup.

Aside from the changes under the hood, the facelifted CX-7 has received a larger five-point lower grille and a restyled front bumper, reworked headlamps, a new roof spoiler, more chrome detailing and newly designed 18- and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, there's a new steering wheel with integrated control switches, new meters on the instrument panel and upgraded materials and trim.

Refreshed Mazda CX-7 with new 2.5-liter engine makes US debut in New York

Having already premiered in Canada as well as in Europe at last month's Geneva Show, the 2010 Mazda CX-7 now makes its first appearance in the United States at the New York International Auto Show. The new CX-7 gains a new 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine that returns an estimated 28mpg on the highway while the compact crossover also benefits from a 'light' exterior and interior facelift.

Most of the cosmetic changes concern the CX-7's fascia which like it or not, adopts the firm's signature smiley-face lower grille along with a more prominent Mazda badge, reshaped front and rear bumpers and newly designed alloy wheels.

Inside, the 2010 CX-7 features upgraded materials at various locations around the cabin, a new steering wheel with integrated controls for the audio, Bluetooth
telephone and cruise-control, new front and rear door armrests, a fresh multi-function display and a restyled meters for the instrument panel while Mazda also modified the vehicle's double-roof instrument panel.

For 2010, apart from the 244HP 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the CX-7 will also be offered for the first time with a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-pot that delivers 161 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 161 lb-ft at 3,500 rpm. Available only with a front-wheel drive layout, the 2.5-liter unit is coupled to a five-speed automatic transmission returning an estimated fuel economy of 21/28 mpg (city/highway).

Mazda's engineers also refined the CX-7's platform by incorporating improvements in body rigidity, lower noise, vibration & harshness (NVH) levels as well as reduced wind noise while the vehicle's suspension was also retuned.

It's going to be all about 'smileys' at Mazda's stand at next month's New York International Auto Show. Along with the all-new, high-performance 2010 MazdaSpeed3 hatch and the refreshed 2010 CX-7 crossover, Mazda will also present the supposedly "heavily revised" CX-9 large crossover. Mazda claims that the 2010 CX-9 has received an exterior and interior facelift without however giving our any further details.

Form what we can tell, the facelifted CX-9 now features a larger and somewhat... smiley-shaped lower grille that seems to be making it on all Mazda models, along with a newly styled bumper, a five-point upper grille, revised headlamps and new exterior mirrors.

Geneva Show: Mazda CX-7 Facelift with new 173HP 2.2-liter Diesel Engine

Making its European debut in Geneva, Mazda's facelifted CX-7 crossover enters 2009 with a mild styling makeover in and out but more importantly, it offers the option of a diesel engine for the very first time. On the outside, the 2009 CX-7 gains a larger grille with a more prominent badge, a new design for the front fog lamp bezels, a chrome bar on the tailgate handle, while a larger rear roof spoiler and newly designed 18- and 19-inch alloy wheels complete the changes.

Moving to the interior, the facelift CX-7 features a new steering wheel with integrated control switches, revised meters on the instrument panel, new materials and trim while the vehicle's unique double-roof instrument panel is modified as well.

Whereas the North American market CX-7 gained a new entry-level 160HP 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, for Europe, Mazda wisely chose to equip the crossover with a new 2.2-litre common-rail turbo diesel engine that joins the 260HP 2.3-litre DISI turbo petrol engine.

Matted to a six-speed manual gearbox, the next-generation MZR-CD 2.2-litre inline four-cylinder turbocharged diesel delivers a maximum power output of 173-horsepower at 3,500 rpm of 400 Nm of torque from 2,000 rpm.

With the new turbo diesel under the bonnet, the revised CX-7 can sprint from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 11.3 seconds and go on to reach a top speed of 200 km/. That's compared to 8.0 seconds and 209 km/h respectively for the 2.3 petrol variant, but the CX-7 Diesel does return 31.3mpg US (7.5lt / 100 km) in the combined cycle, an improvement of around 9mpg US over the gasoline model.

2010 Mazda CX-7 Receives Subtle Facelift and New 160HP 2.5-Liter Engine

It could have been revealed at chose this week's Chicago Auto Show or even at the upcoming Geneva Salon in March, but Mazda to perform the world debut of its facelifted 2010 CX-7 crossover at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto. The most significant change is hidden under the hood as Mazda decided to present a new entry-level version of the CX-7 equipped with the same 160-horsepower 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder that we find in the Mazda6 and Mazda3. There's no official press release as we speak, so it remains to be seen if this version will come to the States.

Just for the record, the 2010 CX-7 will continue to be offered with Mazda's 2.3-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 244-horsepower.

Powertrains aside, Mazda's designers updated the CX-7 exterior styling with a new front bumper, clear crystal tail lights and a new rear apron. In the cabin, changes include the restyled gauges on the instrument panel, newly designed center air-vents that look like they came from an Audi parts bin and a 4.1-inch color TFT information display.
